France will provide 4000 euros of subsidies to the people who use electric bicycles to replace cars
According to The Times, the French government has increased the subsidy scale for people who exchange gasoline vehicles for electric bicycles, up to 4000 euros (about 27280 yuan) per person, in order to encourage people to give up polluting transportation and choose cleaner and more environmentally friendly alternatives.
It is reported that people from low-income families living in low emission urban areas in France, if they replace their cars, are eligible for a subsidy of 4000 euros to buy electric bicycles (traditional non motor vehicles are also eligible for incentives).
France introduced such subsidies for the first time last year and recently increased them. The French government said it hoped that by 2024, 9% of the people in the country would switch to cycling, compared with 3% now. The figure of the Netherlands in this field is as high as 27%, and the French government hopes to catch up with the Netherlands in this regard.
This policy is based on a very successful plan of Lithuania. In this plan, citizens of Lithuania are eligible for subsidies up to 1000 euros (about 6820 yuan) to purchase a new electric bicycle, scooter, moped and motorcycle. After exchanging old cars, they can also obtain public transport points.
However, France does not just spend money on personal subsidies. The government also said that it will invest 250 million euros (about 1.705 billion yuan) to make Paris fully bicycle oriented. Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of the city, won re-election last year and promised to add another 130 kilometers of bicycle safe passage in the next five years.
